Debate Team

  • The Speech and Debate Team encompasses a wide variety of competitions for students to sharpen their skills in regarding the news, world affairs, and argumentation.  Events include Cross-Examination Debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Congressional Debate, Persuasive Speaking, Informative Speaking, Current Issues and Events, Model UN, Mock Trial, Prose, Poetry, and many more.  Talk to Mr. Levy if you are interested or stop by a practice after school in L105 on Tuesdays or Thursdays!

     

     

    Notable Results this year can be found below.

    At the Waller Tournament on October 5, the team won their first medals of the year.  Third place in Novice Congress, third place in Novice Extemporaneous Speaking, second place in the two-person Varsity Cross-Examination Debate event, and first place in Storytelling were all captured by the Porter team.

    On October 19, the team competed at Kingwood Park in their first annual tornament, winnning six more medals and second place in the costume contest. In Storytelling, the Porter team collected third, fourth, and sixth place medals.  Porter speakers also placed second and fourth in Novice Poetry, and third in Varsity Prose.

    Our next tournament will be at Grand Oaks on November 1.
