Band

  • Woodridge Forest Middle School Band Mission Statement:
By the time our students leave the Woodridge Forest Band program, we aim to have developed effective leaders, independent musicians, and superior citizens of our community. Our purpose is to foster a positive relationship with our community at large; pursuing our vision and mission statements by establishing patterns of intentional practice, communication, and exemplifying good character.

    Beginning Band:
Beginning Band is for brand new or still-developing band members. Upon choosing band as their elective, students are placed on instruments at an "instrument placement appointment" with a band director. Possible instruments include: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, and Percussion. Students will be grouped into instrument-specific classes after determining the instrument they will play. Regardless of instrument choice, students are required to purchase necessary instrument supplies and may have to rent/purchase their own instrument. Beginning Band is a performance-based class that requires both rehearsals and performances outside of the regular school day on occasion.

Students who choose band as their elective are committing to remain in the program for the entire year!

    Concert Band:
Concert Band is our Sub-Non Varsity ensemble and is the next logical step after completing Beginning Band. Though it is our "seventh grade level band," Concert Band is for both seventh and eighth graders. Here, we develop strong fundamental musicians, great young leaders, and community through appreciation of music. This is done through participation in both solo and large ensemble performances. Instrumentation varies year-to-year based on instrumentation needs determined by the band directors. Should their instrument require it, students may be required to purchase various instrument supplies. Concert Band is a performance-based class and will require rehearsals and performances outside of the regular school day on occasion.

    Symphonic Band:
Symphonic Band is our Non-Varsity Ensemble and is our "eighth grade level band," though both seventh and eighth graders may be placed here. Here, we develop increasingly independent musicians, strong young leaders, and community through appreciation of music. Students further develop and refine their musical abilities through participation in large and small ensembles, as well as solo performances. Because this is a competitive ensemble, students will be expected to attend various rehearsals and performances outside the regular school day, and students unable to meet these requirements may be moved to a different performing band with fewer outside commitments.

    Wind Ensemble:
The Woodridge Forest Wind Ensemble is our Varsity Ensemble and is the premier performing band at Woodridge Forest. This is our "high school level" ensemble and is an immense challenge that is only appropriate for advanced and dedicated musicians. Here, we develop independent musicians, great young leaders, and community through appreciation of music. Students placed in this band will further develop their advanced musical ability through participation in large and small ensembles, as well as solo performances.

Wind Ensemble is a highly competitive band, and members of this band will be expected to attend numerous extra rehearsals and performances outside of the regular school day. Students unable to meet the demands of Wind Ensemble may be moved to a different performing band with fewer outside requirements.
